Planting trees is easy; growing a forest is hard
A sapling planted for a felled tree is not yet a forest. Biodiversity builds up over decades, with care and with local communities.

As a volunteer I work on reforestation and biodiversity projects with the 10 Million Trees Foundation. The first lesson was that the number of saplings is the least important number.
What matters
- Native species that suit the site, not just fast-growing monoculture
- Care during the first five years, when most saplings can be lost
- Local communities with a stake in keeping the forest
That is why our climate projects do not promise offset tonnes but measurable, long-term nature regeneration, and we report openly on what fails too.
